C, then G, then D, then A (dó, sol, ré, lá). Each one is a fifth above the one before — the same distance every time.

That is not a coincidence about these four notes. It is the whole organising idea behind key signatures: go up a fifth and you get the next key along, with exactly one more sharp than you had.
