Which way did it go?

This is the smallest listening skill there is, and it is worth doing properly.

Everything else in ear training is a refinement of one question: what did the second note do relative to the first? Name an interval and you are saying how far. Find the tonic and you are saying where it settled. Both assume you already heard that something moved, and in which direction.

Nothing is drawn in this lesson. No keyboard, no notation, not even the note names — if there were, you could answer by looking, and looking is not the skill.
